I have been living in the Ariege area of the Pyrenees since the start of 2017. Along with my family we have swapped the grey of Yorkshire for the (mostly) blue skies and sun of Southwest France.
Having had time to settle in and mull my options over I have now decided the time is right to embark upon a new career for me as a freelance dietitian.
Prior to life in France I worked as a hospital dietitian, having qualified in 2001 and spent most of my professional career working for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I have worked primarily with children, but also have extensive experience working with adults.
Before my life as a dietitian I came from a scientific background and I think this coupled with my dietetic experience gives me an additional perspective on nutrition. I undertook a PhD in biochemistry (at Birkbeck College, University of London) and a post-doctorate (in Berkeley California), My scientific qualifications and background enable me to really understand the science behind all the information and theories that we are continually bombarded with.
Last, but not least I also have an interest in sports nutrition and successfully completed a postgraduate certificate in sports and exercise nutrition from Coventry University in 2009. This was partly fuelled by own sporting interests (having completed 2 marathons), but also wanting to help athletes whether elite or keen enthusiasts manage their nutrition.
